TEST RESULTS DONE BY VTT TECHNICAL RESEARCH CENTRE OF FINLAND

The aim was to do a stain test on samples that had been washed 0 (original), 5, 10, 20 or 30 times. Two tablecloth fabrics were serving as samples:

- Damask, beige/white
- Satin, Sarita

Coffee and red wine were spread on the samples of which one was original and the others had been washed 5,10 or 20 times. Half of the stains were removed after half an hour by pressing the stains with a kitchen towel. The other half of the stains were let to stand for 24 hours, after that the stains were tried to removed with a fibre towel so, that the stain got wet and it was rubbed. If the stain went through the fabric, the other side was treated in the same way.

The original and the 5, 10, 20 or 30 times washed samples were also stained with salad dressing. In this case, the stains were removed 24 hours later with a fibre towel that was moistened with detergent liquid so, that the stain got wet and it was rubbed. If the stain went through the fabric, the other side was also treated.

After both treatments the strength of the stains was judged between 1 and 5 according to the following table:

1: Stain like the original
2: Stain turned slightly lighter
3: Stain partly gone
4: Stain barley noticeable
5: Stain not noticeable
